Did you know that Emmaus has an ice rink? Well it does! It's located on the basketball courts on Williams St. The Borough has spent countless man-hours and dollars to bring ice skating to Emmaus. This is the third year the rink has been in operation. I will post daily ice updates and rink conditions, since I can see the thing from my window. So far, in three years of operation, the rink has been open a total of 5 days. This year the rink had problems holding water, but the engineers at ...

I was wondering what kind of support we might be able to get to see about getting some land from the borough to use for a pump track. Something the kids could use to encourage more riders to enter the sport. Does anyone have any contacts or advice on who I could talk to to see if this is a possibility?

Champagne Ride - Redux

The annual Emmaus tradition, which by FSX standards can mean just about anything, is back for the 2009 installment of the Champagne ride.

The details:

31 Dec 2008

-OK...we had Jen's schedule a little outta whack for those who saw the New Year's Day post

SMC

12:00

Hollyberry route (or a Hollyberry root route)

-You see that was a homonym. It sounds the same but means something different

Champagne will be served mid-ride

Come one, come all...come as you are !

Just a quick thanks to all 132 different riders that accompanied me on my 6630 road miles in 2008. I was hoping for 7000 this year, but the 8+ inches of December rain and a quick decline in my motivation ended that. Here's how the Top 25 in Beth Miles turned out. (Note that Christina was in Belize for 6 months, yet still managed to finish 6th.) Total rides in parenthesis--Brunch, Lunch, Tea were only counted as one ride...

Come on out to Jim Thorpe and enjoy a casual ride up the Lehigh Gorge with a stop for a picnic! The leaves are beginning to change, the air is cool and its time to soak it all in. I will be pulling my son in a trailer, so pace will be casual and family friendly. Bring some picnic food for the stop, and a camera for the scenery. Meet at the JT end parking lot (just across the bridge from JT) at 10am or leave from SMC at 9am.

Some of us degenerates are getting together this Friday to do some "testing" on the cross bikes.

We will be testing:

barrier ability

cornering ability

braking ability

lights

livers

PBR pounding ability

etc.

Laid back, good fun. Maybe some beers before, during, and after...Tell whom you choose.

Velodrome side of Rodale around the park, etc. I have some "Schnecksville-Engineered" barriers.

Time: 630ish-?

Friday October 3rd 6:30 PM Allentown Fairgrounds 17 miles

Holy headlights, Batman! Get on your bat-cycles and ride! Experience the Queen City by starlight. Mostly lit urban streets, but headlights and/or helmet lights and blinkies required. Figure eight course, bailout at halfway. Food and drink afterward by consensus at Ruffino's, Allentown Brew Works or Analyssa's Coffee Shop, among others. Fixies, freakcycles, anything that lights up welcome!

See LWA calendar.
